A common theme in all my works is the idea of distortion; the idea of self-distortion is paralleled in my works. Instead of taking a realistic approach to these series of paintings I wanted to take a more abstract approach, which is very different from what I have done in the past. Portraiture has always been of great interest to me and I wanted to explore the idea of portraiture more, in an abstract way.

Distortion plays a very important role pertaining to the underlying theme in my paintings. I want interested in the idea of self-distortion within us. How we portray ourselves to be or how others view us. The idea that people don’t necessarily see us for who we are and usually have a distorted view of not only themselves but of others was intriguing. I felt that distortion really would characterize this idea well.

I don’t want to particularly categorize my style of painting, it’s supposed to be open to interpretation. That is what I want my Art to do for the viewer, I want them to be able to relate to the painting, but at the same time be able to question my idea for the paintings. The objective in a way is to be able to make the viewer feel that distortion in oneself.
